It's 2025 Apple, We Still Need to Talk

Back in 2017, we published a blog titled "Hey Apple, We Still Need to Talk About Your Chargers". At the time, our biggest frustration was the same one shared by millions of Apple users worldwide: fraying cables that just couldn't keep up with daily life.

You probably remember it too, the split near the connector, the exposed wires, and the inevitable slow decline of what was supposed to be a premium charging experience. It didn't matter how careful you were; if you owned an iPhone or MacBook, odds were your charging cable gave up within a year. For a company known for sleek design and innovation, this flaw stood out.

Fast forward to Apple charging cables in 2025, and yes, some progress has been made. Apple now offers braided Apple charging cables, which are tougher, more resistant to bending, and generally more durable. This was one of the fixes we were asking for back in 2017 and it is good to see the change. But here is the truth: durability is only part of the story now.  Charging is now about speed, flexibility, and universality. And that's where Apple's strategy still leaves users short.

Apple MagSafe vs USB-C: A Back-and-Forth Story

Apple's relationship with magnetic charging has been a rollercoaster. Years ago, MacBooks had MagSage. A clever way to protect laptops from accidental tugs and trips. Then Apple ditched it in favor of USB-C, which gave users faster charging and multi-purpose connectivity.

Now MagSage is back. But here's the question: do we really need it anymore?

The truth is, most professionals today prefer USB-C because it's the universal magnetic charging cable alternative we've all been waiting for. It charges, it transfers data, it powers displays, all through one port. By reintroducing MagSafe, Apple is giving us nostalgia, but at the cost of practicality. A dedicated MagSafe port means one less USB-C port for everything else.

This is exactly why we created the Volta Max Cable, because you shouldn't have to choose between convenience and versatility.

Why the Volta Max Cable Is Different

The Volta Max isn't just another cord, it is arguably the best magnetic USB-C cable you can own. It was designed to solve the exact problems Apple keeps circling around.

  • Magnetic connection that keeps your devices safe and prevents wear on ports.
  • 240W USB-C magnetic cable power that can handle everything from a MacBook Pro to a Nintendo Switch to your phone.
  • Full Thunderbolt 5 support for 20Gbps data transfers and 4K display output.

Instead of juggling multiple cables or being locked into Apple's accessory ecosystem, the Volta Max is the universal magnetic charging cable that replaces them all. One cable, every device no compromises.

For USB-C Users Who Don’t Want to Risk Port Damage

Some users stick with standard USB-C because it's fast and universal. Fair enough. But here's the part most people overlook: USB-C ports weren't built for endless plugging and unplugging. Over time, that constant strain leads to wear, loosened connections, and eventual failure.

That's why we designed the Thunderbolt 5 magnetic adapter, a MagSafe alternative that doesn't force you to buy Apple's proprietary gear. This small adapter snaps onto any USB-C cable you already own and instantly transforms it into a magnetic charging powerhouse. With switchable tips, it adapts to all your devices while protecting your USB-C ports from physical stress.

Think of it as the simplest USB-C cable fraying fix, not just for the cable itself, but for your devices ports too.

Why We’re Still Talking About This in 2025

So why bring all this up again, eight years later? Because charging isn't about cables anymore. It's about keeping all your devices running without compromises. Apple has taken steps forward with their braided Apple charging cables, but when you look at Apple MagSafe vs USB-C, it is clear they are still split between convenience and control.

Mean while, users are left carrying multiple cords, buying into proprietary systems, and losing valuable USB-C ports in the process.

We don't think that's good enough.

At Volta, we believe charging should be:

  • Durable enough to outlast your devices.
  • Universal across every phone, tablet, and laptop you own.
  • Future-proof with speeds and power levels that match tomorrow's tech, not just today's.

Closing Thought

Back in 2017, we asked Apple for stronger cables. In 2025, they've delivered braided ones. But users deserve more than durability, they deserve true flexibility and universality.

Until Apple makes charging as seamless as it should be, we'll keep building the solutions ourselves: the Volta Max Cable, the 240W USB-C magnetic cable that powers everything, and the Thunderbolt 5 magnetic adapter that keeps your USB-C gear safe.

Apple, we still need to talk.
